From Rehabilitation to Mental Performance

Dr. Jones began her career in rehabilitation. She completed postdoctoral residency training in neuropsychology at a Columbia/HCA hospital in Arlington, Virginia, formerly the National Hospital for Orthopedics and Rehabilitation. Early in her career, she worked with people recovering from traumatic brain injuries and living with chronic medical conditions. That work showed her how closely the mind and body are connected, and how mindset, confidence, focus, and emotional well-being shape the way people function and perform.

She also developed and served as chief operating officer of a hospital-based day treatment program for adults living with psychiatric and medical illnesses. She also taught undergraduate and graduate psychology courses at Marymount University. For more than 20 years, she has worked in private practice.

Dr. Jones also knows competitive sport from the family side. She is the mother of three athletes who competed at the elite level, so she has seen the pressures and rewards of high-level sport up close, alongside her own children. That experience shapes how she thinks about supporting athletes and the families behind them.

Together, those experiences led her into mental performance. Dr. Jones is trained in Mindful Sport Performance Enhancement (MSPE), a mindfulness-based mental training program developed for athletes and performers, and she co-founded MindBalanceSPORT to help athletes build mental skills before challenges take hold, rather than after.

Why Dr. Jones Co-Founded MindBalanceSPORT

For most of her career, Dr. Jones met athletes only after they were already struggling. She and co-founder Dr. Brenna Chirby created MindBalanceSPORT to change that timing: to give young athletes the mental skills behind confidence, focus, and resilience early, as part of how they train.

“For years, my work with athletes started after they'd already been diagnosed. We created MBS to move away from that. Athletes deserve to learn these skills before they're struggling, not after.”
